Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

SoloPenNotes is an offline-first note-taking app. Your privacy is important to us.

Data Collection

We do not collect, store, or process any personal data. The app does not use analytics, tracking, or advertising. Your notes never pass through our servers.

Data Storage

All your notes are stored locally on your device. If you choose to enable sync, your data is synced via Apple CloudKit using your personal iCloud account. We have no access to your iCloud data.

Optional Backups

Backups are off until you turn them on in Settings → Backup. They copy your notes only to places you own:

  • A folder — in the Files app on your device, or a folder you choose (for example in iCloud Drive). No account is needed and nothing is sent to us.
  • Your own Google Drive — if you connect it, the app saves a copy of each note (and, if you choose, a PDF) in a “SoloPen Backup” folder in your Google Drive, so you can restore your notes later. It uses Google’s drive.file permission, which only lets the app see and change the files it creates itself — it cannot see anything else in your Drive. The app also reads your Google account’s email address, only to show which account is connected. Your notes go directly from your device to your Google account; we never receive them, and nothing from your Google account is shared with anyone. Your Google sign-in is kept only in your device’s Keychain.

You can disconnect Google Drive at any time in Settings → Backup (this also revokes the app’s access), or remove access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Backup files already in your Drive or folder stay there and belong to you; you can delete them yourself at any time.

SoloPenNotes’ use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

SoloPenNotes for Windows

The Windows app works the same way: no account, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and your notes never pass through our servers.

  • On your computer — your notes, version history and settings are kept in your own Windows user folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\SoloPen). They stay there even if you uninstall the app; delete that folder to remove them. Handwriting search and voice transcription use Windows’ built-in recognizers on your computer. A crash log stays on your computer and is never sent; you can save it to a file yourself from Settings → About.
  • Backups — copies of your notes go only to a folder you own, by default OneDrive › SoloPen Backups (or Documents › SoloPen Backups). If that folder belongs to a cloud service such as OneDrive, that service uploads it under its own terms.
  • Sync through your own Google Drive — if you link it, the app signs in with Google in your web browser and keeps a “SoloPen” folder in your Google Drive up to date with your notes, their pictures and recordings, and a random device identifier, so your other devices can read them. It uses the same drive.file permission (only files the app creates) and reads your email address only to show which account is linked. Your notes go directly from your computer to your Google account. The sign-in is stored encrypted for your Windows user, and unlinking gives the access back to Google. Files already in your Drive stay there until you delete them.
  • Updates — when installed from the Microsoft Store, the app asks the Store at most once a day whether a newer version exists. Nothing about you or your notes is sent.
  • Books — imported books and PDFs are shown without loading anything from the web.

Third-Party Services

The app does not sell or share your data with anyone. External services are used only when you turn them on: Apple CloudKit for sync, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, and Google Drive for optional backups and sync, governed by Google's Privacy Policy. On Windows, purchases and updates go through the Microsoft Store, governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
